The 2 prong sensor turns on/off the electric fan in front of the Radiator. There are 50C and 70C metal temperature sensors under the Air Cleaner.

If I open the bonnet at the end of a run with caravan on, top and bottom hoses are extremely hot, but absolutely no fan and gauge is sat at half way as per normal. Caravan is about 1100kg. There isn't a temperature sensor in the rad, all done by engine management by a sensor on the cylinder head. The fan cuts in through 4 stages.
Does anyone know whether the Mk3 mondeo 1.8 petrol has two different coolant temperature sensors (one for the guage and one for the ECU) like the Mk2? I know there is one built into the thermostat housing, but not sure whether this is for guage, ECU or both.
Hi everyone ! just become a new member and own a st 170 and 1.8 edge on a 2004. Having problems with the focus 1.8 edge petrol that has covered 84,000 miles and is totally mint condition which i have owned for over two years and problem free. Fairly easy to test this, get the vehicle hot and see if coolant is returning to the bottle from the top small coolant hose. If no coolant is returning then that's your issue. 2.
